We work with a lot of beautiful woods here at Fodera.  Even so, there are some that we look at and can only say “wow”.  Case in point, the Spalted Maple top on this Monarch 4 Deluxe.

Spalted Maple is a particularly difficult wood to work with.  The incredible “spalting” is a result of fungus in the tree causing the wood to rot in a certain way, so the material literally falls apart while we carve and shape it.  Despite the hassle, the end result is well worth it as you can see from the pictures provided.

Looks are important, but our basses are built for tone above all else, and this one does not disappoint!  With an Alder body and Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, this instrument has a warm, deeply nuanced tone that just makes you want to keep playing for hours.
