Unique Features
This was a particularly exciting build as the instrument is for a longtime friend and outstanding bassist, Julian Michel.
Julian fell in love with Viceroy shape shortly after he first saw us use it on Mike Pope's signature instrument. The shape combines stylistic elements of both our Monarch and Emperor models and was the result of a collaboration between Mike and Vinny. The added fun and challenge that we had with this build is the result of Julian being both a Lefty and also highly knowledgeable about all things Fodera.
Following an extensive discussion about specs, Julian chose to have us build his new Fodera with an Ash body and Pau Ferro fingerboard so that his bass would have a tone suitable for a wide range of styles. Deep and tight lows, transparent mids, and just enough high end give this instrument a balanced sonic presence.
With no inboard pre-amp and Fodera/Duncan J/J pickups, this bass balances spans the tonal spectrum from vintage JBass growl to articulate, modern solo instrument with applomb. Have we mentioned that we both loved the final results and the process of refining the build specs with Julian? Now we cannot wait to hear the amazing music that he will create with it!!
