Unique Features
The Second 2013 NAMM Show bass to be revealed! As with all of the NAMM Show instruments celebrating our 30th Anniversary, this gorgeous instrument is loaded with special "goodies." Right off the bat, you will notice its stunning "Belize Burl" top. A first for us here at Fodera, one of our wood purveyors had secured just enough of this incredibly rare material for just two or three instruments -- so rare in fact that we named it ourselves as the only information that we have about it was that it was harvested respectfully, was old and dry and it came from Belize! Although it kind of looks like a hypothetical "Spalted Buckeye Burl," it is much denser material and adds a definite brightness to the overall tonal presentation of this bass.
With such a special top wood, it seemed only appropriate to use a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard (with block inlays). Rounding out the special woods is a neck made from very old (as in, "it's been in the shop since the early 1990's) Birdseye Maple, South American Rosewood and Flame Maple.
Overall, this bass sports a really deep, rich low-end that is augmented by the balance of its Brazilian FB and some upper register cut coming from the Belize. Yes, it looks beautiful...but it sounds and plays even better.
