Unique Features
The second prototype Matt Garrison Standard built (and a "twin" of the one that we built for Matt). This gorgeous instrument was part of our sales offering at the 2012 Winter NAMM Show and features a compact body, short scale length (33") and narrow string spacing (17.5mm at the bridge).
We used a different combination of tonewoods on this bass with very similar results to Matt's previous signature model. A a pair of Walnut body wings has been married to a 3-piece Hard Rock Maple neck with an Alder Tone Block. A Pau Ferro fingerboard made from stock that has been in our shop since 1990 rounds things out.
For electronics, even though this is intended to be the first of a new Standard model (which usually use our Fodera / Pope Standard Preamp), we opted to employ our Custom Shop Fodera / Pope Preamp (the production version will use the same preamp) and a set of Fodera / Duncan Dual Coil pickups. Completing the specs are a non-solid Box Elder Burl top, Ebony ramp and Drop Tuner.
With its super low action, narrow spacing, 33" scale and E-C tuning, this is one of the easiest playing bass guitars any of us has ever experienced. Tonally it is beautifully melodic while remaining tight and articulate throughout its extended range.
